Betula pendula

Occasionally a birch tree has a growth defect which causes small pieces of bark from the outside of the tree to be overgrown as the heart of the tree expands. These small bark inclusions cause the wood to have a wild mottled grain flecked with specks of bark. The result is Masseur Birch. With its shimmering grain flecked with dark bark inclusions, Masseur Birch is a much sought after wood.
