Wingspan – Revised Edition
You’ve always wanted to play a board game where you impersonate a bird enthusiast, right? Well, today’s the day for you!
Wingspan is a competitive board game that utilizes a mixture of cards, tokens, and other misc. components.
Viticulture: Essential Edition
Viticulture is a highly thematic worker placement game intended for 2-6 more experienced players.
Have you ever thought about dropping everything and becoming a vintner? Well, wine not?
You can finally live out the life of running a vineyard in this classic worker placement game. Which is exactly what it sounds like, you place workers in this game. Set in the Italian countryside, players inherit meager vineyards that require some work and some love. If Stardew Valley was set in Tuscany, you’d be spot on. Navigate the seasons while cultivating grapes and making wine, all the while carefully choosing where to send your workers. Of course, there’s another aspect: selling the wine you’ve worked hard to make. Fill wine orders to make your customers happy and spread petty rumors about the other vineyards in the region having rats. That last bit’s not officially part of the game, but hey. There can only be one top dog in the wine biz.
PARKS is an excellent game with fantastic artwork, intended for 1-5 players looking for new entry level titles.
Hiking is great. You get to go outside, see nature in all of its glory, watch the local fauna, smell the local flora. The only thing that could possibly improve hiking is making it competitive. That’s exactly what PARKS brings to the table, so buckle up!
Players control two hikers as they go through different trails and seasons, scouting out and grabbing resources as they navigate these trails. Of course, resources are scarce so you have to make sure you’re grabbing them before those dastardly other hikers. The art in this game is absolutely gorgeous too. Even if you’re losing(which, let’s be real, every group has that one player who wins every game), you’ll still have a good time just looking at the cards.
Competitive, X-treme, Resource Intense Hiking > Regular Boring Hiking
7 Wonders is a competitive card drafting game, intended for 2-7 players who already have some experience with board games.
You’re the leader of a civilization with a simple, extremely easy task: build a fantastical feat of strength like the pyramids of Giza. Also, while you’re doing that, do your best to stay on top of the food chain of civilizations. Also, manage your resources well so you can keep building your wonder. Also, keep a close eye on your left and right, because its in the best interest of those players to put you on your back foot. Sounds easy, right?
Gather resources, develop commercial routes, and show those haters that you’re a military force to be reckoned with by using cards that are drafted one at a time and played right away. Some cards require you pay resources, some cards have you go to war, and some aren’t so useful until later in the game. You can work with the player to your left and right to a degree, so make sure you aren’t making TOO much war with them. Just a moderate amount of war, ok?
Scythe is a fairly deep engine-building game intended for 1-5 more experienced board game players.
It’s the 1920’s. You’re in an alternate universe and your phone is dead. Out of the corner of your eye you spot it: a capitalistic city-state only known as “The Factory”.
Have you played Age of Empires? Well…this is nothing like that. Players compete against each other, all representing different factions vying for a foothold in the war-torn area surrounding “The Factory”. Gain and spend some resources, conquer territories, and gather recruits all while using monstrous mechs to take care of business. Yes, you read that right, there are mechs in this game. What more do you want?
