Our Sourcing Ethics

At Wyrmwood we are unequivocally committed to preserving our forests across the world.

Wyrmwood sources diverse woods from across the globe. Our unwavering commitment to ethical wood sourcing remains essential to delivering exceptional, well-crafted products.

Protect and Preserve

We have a proud history of working with partners in the conservation field, directly supporting crucial conservation and reforestation efforts.

Work with the Market

The sale of exotic woods supports local economies, creating economic incentive to continue growing these species, rather than clear them.

Craft Conscientiously

We strive to consume less lumber through efficient practices, minimizing waste. We also actively try to repurpose much of our unavoidable scrap.

A Delicate Balance

Wyrmwood takes a multi-pronged approach to sustainability that we believe will result in lasting, positive impact. To focus only on conservation means that local populations can’t sell lumber, and in that situation they may clear out threatened species to plant trees and crops with more economic value to them. However, to go to the opposite extreme will result in reckless deforestation, and overharvesting, causing vulnerable species to become further endangered.

By contributing to conservation efforts and reforestation, while also offering our customers the opportunity to purchase goods crafted from exotic materials, we do our best to incentivize and protect the continued growth of these species.

Stewardship & Responsibility

We recognize the value of these rare, beautiful materials, sourcing our
exotics from ethical, reputable sellers. Working efficiently reduces waste,
and where possible, we repurpose unavoidable waste to further limit our
environmental impact. We offer a range of exotic and domestic woods,
including “Rustic” options, made from materials salvaged during our
production process, allowing customers to purchase according
to their conscience.

Nonprofit Partners

Wyrmwood has partnered with a variety of organizations over the years to promote and support worthy causes. A few of these organizations are listed below. In some cases partnerships are ongoing over long periods of time, while in others they are limited to specific products or promotions, but we are proud to help these groups in making a difference.

Vulnerable

  • Ceylon Satinwood
  • Claro Walnut
  • Cocobolo
  • East Indian Rosewood
  • Macassar Ebony
  • Mahogany
  • Zebrawood

Endangered

  •  Gabon Ebony
  • Makore
  • Wenge

Most species Wyrmwood works with are in no way threatened or endangered, but we do offer some rare, exotic species. We urge any client that feels conflicted about the trade of exotic woods to avoid these, choosing instead one of the options designated as “vulnerable” on the list above, which present no sustainability concern. We will update this list, should offerings or the status of species on it change.
