Hello all,
It’s a new month, and time for a new update! Let’s check in on our progress with the Modular Desk.
Key Takeaways
- Ian has returned from Pennsylvania, after working to increase our throughput on that campus. He was successful in his efforts, bringing the facility to a pace of 25 orders per week (5 orders per day). There is every indication this will be consistently hit moving forward, as well.
- In terms of current orders, we have 26 shipping shortly, just awaiting pickup. Beyond that, a further 29 are completely built, with the desks waiting in PA, but they need some accessories from MA. Those have been built, pulled, and are being transported to PA, at which time these orders, too, will be awaiting pickup, so a total of 55 orders are complete and ready to ship.
- The PC Tower Mount has been held back from shipping for a bit due to a minor issue – lack of instructions. We did receive them, and we are working as quickly as possible on getting proper instructions worked up so you can easily integrate it with your new desk. Once these are ready in digital format, we’ll begin shipping them, with a print booklet soon to come. Similarly, we are finishing up the print-ready version of the overall Modular Desk instructions to include.
- In Massachusetts, we have about 40 desk orders in varying stages of production, and we’re now working to keep Pennsylvania properly supplied for the new rate of 25 orders per week, and this is going well.
- The Monitor Ledge is moving through development, and nearing the end of the process. The alpha version is done and came out great, so we’re moving onto finalizing the drawings and making a few very small final adjustments. Everything remaining to fully release it to production should occur within the next couple of weeks. We did have one note on it – see below.
- If you’ve moved since placing your order, or will be soon, get in touch to let us know! We want to make sure your Modular Desk reaches you safe and sound, so please keep your address with us up to date. It’s important to note that if you’ve updated your address through WyrmwoodGaming.com, this does not affect orders you’ve already placed! The only way to change the address of a placed order is by contacting us directly, so drop us a line at sales@wyrmwoodgaming.com if you need us to change that.
Monitor Ledge Construction: Drawers
The Monitor Ledge is nearing the end stage of development, but we wanted to draw your attention to one aspect of it that wasn’t highlighted in the past. Our drawers for the desk are constructed using a faceplate that matches the chosen wood, an engineered surface for the bottom, and maple for the back and sides. There are a few reasons for this – first, engineered product for the base is stable and will not present wood movement issues. The back and sides are generally not seen, using a stable domestic like maple also decreases the likelihood of wood movement issues, while preserving the beauty of solid hardwood for the more visible areas of the drawer when it’s in use. Finally, keeping the back and sides a uniform material across SKUs greatly increases the efficiency of production and inventory.
The Monitor Ledge features drawers, and these are constructed in the same way. However, unlike the desk drawers, the back of the Monitor Ledge is open, to allow easy access for cables and charging. This means that the backside of drawers are potentially visible from the rear of the desk. We noticed that this isn’t necessarily noticeable in the visual configurator used when ordering, so we wanted to draw your attention to it as we finalize the design and begin production. Note that this is not a design change; our prototype Monitor Ledges all are constructed this way. But, prior to shipping, we did want to highlight it so you weren’t surprised upon receiving yours!
Mount Mount
The Mount Mount, a planned accessory for the Modular Desk, was intended to be a universal mount for monitor stands and other equipment. The design of the desktop changed during the engineering process, forcing the Mount Mount to be relegated to the early stages of development.
In the intervening period, we have become aware of alternative, existing products on the market that fulfill the intended functionality of the Mount Mount, and as a result, are no longer moving forward with the development and release of the Mount Mount. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment.
While we could continue to engineer and produce this accessory, the fact that there are existing products on the market that fulfill the intended purpose, and are being produced and sold affordably, led us to decide that we could better serve our clients by focusing on more novel problems for which solutions did not already exist. If you’d like details on some existing mounts that we have used with the Modular Desk, don’t hesitate to reach out. As a general guideline, any mount that can clamp to an area greater than 2″ thick will work. Look for a mount with padding to avoid marring the desktop – however, most quality mounts do include this feature.
Next Update: September 15th
Thank you, as always, for your continued patience while we proceed through the process of producing and shipping all of your orders. We’re really pleased with the final outcome of the project, if not the longer than anticipated – and desired – road getting to this point. Still, we’re proud of the Modular Desk, and we hope you’ll share in that once you receive your own.
We’ll be back on the 15th with the latest news.
