Hello all!
As we reach the middle of March, it’s time once again to review our progress and let you know how the Modular Desk project is going.
Key Takeaways
- Production for the Modular Desk continues to move forward, with the Desktops for the first orders moving through production. The initial batch of prototype Desktops will be mailed over to our MA location from PA, as a real world shipping test. We don’t anticipate any problems, but we want to make sure to test the entire process before shipping out to a customer. We want to make sure that if there is something insufficient about the packaging or some other issue during shipping, it doesn’t impact you, the client.
- For the XL Desktops, we have a number of carriers that we can utilize to deliver these, and we’re nailing down exactly who will do so. We have a number of partners working with us right now that we’re very pleased with, which is not something we’re used to; it’s extremely difficult to find reliable shipping partners in the furniture world, and we’re very happy to have partners at present that are giving us consistent, great results and making our clients first experience with their furniture a positive one.
- The Monitor Ledge remains the only part of the project still in development; this has been slow going, mostly due to necessary priority changes. The earliest orders shipping out do not contain one, and so it wasn’t holding us up from shipping anything, and still isn’t. That said, Jason has been shifting back to see this through and get it done.
- We mentioned that the Cable Management system had to go back to engineering for some final adjustments. These have been made and have moved on to the final stage, which is when we update the spec sheets – files that instruct craftsmen on what to do with a given piece. There are no decisions or changes left to make, it’s just a matter of some bookkeeping at this point, so Cable Management is effectively cleared for production once again.
- As we showed last time, the frames have arrived! We hadn’t been able to inspect them prior to the last update, but now, of course, we have done so. The results are positive – the frames seem great, the packaging is very robust, and they fit exactly as expected, so there are no issues with these. We’re waiting on the remainder of our frame order, but we still have a few hundred here so, at long last, we aren’t concerned at all about the frames.
- So, in terms of order shipping out: as we mentioned, the initial orders are being worked on now. We have frames, and we expect that in roughly a week to ten days, those first orders will be complete and start to ship out.
- Our pickups from UPS (which will ship Standard Desks and accessories) occur at least weekly, but often more frequently than that. We have a daily pickup from our Massachusetts workshop for small orders, where a driver comes in a “brownie” truck – the ones you see in your neighborhood. UPS leaves a full trailer at our Pennsylvania shop, we load it throughout the week, and they come to pick it up when it’s full. So you can expect, once you receive a shipping notification, that your order will enter the UPS stream and begin moving within a week of getting the tracking information.
- The new timeline to be communicated to backers is still coming, and now that we’re set to begin shipping we’ll get going on that in earnest.
- If you’ve moved since placing your order, or will be soon, get in touch to let us know! We want to make sure your Modular Desk reaches you safe and sound, so please keep your address with us up to date. It’s important to note that if you’ve updated your address through WyrmwoodGaming.com, this does not affect orders you’ve already placed! The only way to change the address of a placed order is by contacting us directly, so drop us a line at sales@wyrmwoodgaming.com if you need us to change that.
Next Update: April 1st
Thank you all for your support and patience, once again. We know it’s been longer than anticipated, which has been frustrating for us, as well as I’m sure it has been for you. The Modular Desk represents uncharted territory for us in many ways; it’s the first piece of furniture we’ve made that didn’t have tabletop gaming in mind, and it’s very exciting for us… but has brought with it many challenges. We really are looking forward to hearing about your experiences with the desk as we begin shipments, so let us know about the delivery, assembly and impressions as you begin to receive them.
We’ve learned a great deal about assemble-at-home furniture through our thousands of shipments of the Modular Gaming Table, and we’re applying that here, so your experience should be a good one from the start… and it should only get better from there. We’ll be back on the first of the month to give you the latest news, which should include confirmation that shipping has begun. From there, we’ll talk about our progress on getting the remaining components and accessories into full production and inventory as we move to fulfill the next batch of orders.
